From an engineer to a doctor

Professor Shih Choon Fong will be handing the baton over to Professor Tan Chorh Chuan.

Prof Shih is an engineer by training, while Prof Tan is a physician by training. Prof Shih took over from Prof Lim Pin, who is also a physician by training.

Seems like NUS prefers to have those with a science background to be its leader. I wonder if there will be a day when NUS will be led by either a philosopher or historian.

I know this is super anal but the proper use of the possessive form of “it” is “its” and not “it’s” (the latter being a contracted form of “it is”).

This mistake is made even by mainstream publications everywhere - irks me all the time though.

Great blog in any event. :)

Yikes! I totally didn’t catch that when proof-reading! It’s one of those small, pesky mistakes that’s easy to go under the radar.

Lily Kong! I heard she’s a charismatic, efficient and very capable leader.

when NUS decides to pay more attention to the FASS, then perhaps. it’s undeniable that NUS prefers to compete with other international universities wrt science faculties.

That’s because science is the way to go…as it is perceived all around the world, anyway. Anyway, what do people in Science think of when they think of FASS? People who couldn’t make it into science? I know I used to think that when i was in JC…but then i went into arts anyway, albeit the extreme kind…

Oh, happy new year, Aaron! And for the philosopher leader…i wouldn’t hold my breath, although i hope for one of us to make it there someday.

I was accepted into science before I transferred to FASS. I’m glad I did as I’m really enjoying what I’m doing now. The few breadth module I take in Science confirmed my choice.

I’ve heard though that NUS can be real asses when it comes to transferring…did you have any problems? Anyway, the Science/Arts things is like that la…most people with a science background who don’t really know what they want to do will do Science because it’s familiar. Not everyone is daring enough to venture into uncharted territory…
