Polis minum Kopi

Email This Post Email This Post Print This Post Print This Post

The title of this entry literally means “Police drinks coffee” in Malay. For the uninitiated, drinking coffee is a Malaysia-Singapore euphemism for bribery. I am not sure as to the origin of this local saying, but I suppose in the past, one can get off the hook by treating those in power to a nice cuppa.

Anyway, the reason for this entry is because I came across a Youtube video. It shows a policeman hauling someone over for a traffic offence and did not issue the RM300 fine after the driver offered RM50 to him as “coffee money”. I have no idea whether the video is real or staged. It appears quite real to me, though.

Yes, it tends to happen quite regularly. I doubt it’s staged.

This doesn’t surprise me one bit. As the leader of the brotherhood, darkness bambi bad boy once said, what will happen in the real world, will eventually be played out in the internet sooner or later, it’s only a matter of time. I dont want to come across a paranoid, but I can see it, the way, the way bh mail has been deliberately removed by the SA. And the current boycot on all bh material.

    Coffee all the way…..minumlah

Not to worry. Darkness is in the picture now. He is not a fool. I assure you, he will choose his time, place and terms. He will not be rushed either. He will take small and large steps depending on the terrain and circumstances. You have got to bear this in mind, we are dealing with a master tactician here, you can even say he is very much in his element. He is not like Inspirid. This is a different breed of monkey, one that is very adept to even playing dead and springing back to life again. They even know exactly who are the one’s making all those veil threats. I can assure you, they know everything. Besides it’s all done a on ‘ad hoc ‘and ‘fun’ basis, nothing is ever serious as far as the internet is concerned - this is hardly the real world.

As for their survivability, not to worry, even if WOS goes, they will be back with 24 hours, so they will always be around.

Life is not that simple, you can only scare children, not them.

Ermm… tot dis is common knowledge among motorists from both sides of da causeway? little gecko shd know cos he’s been working here like for years :) Da market rate is RM50… sometimes, wen dey see you’re like a 1st timer in such transactions, dey may ask for more ;p

Anyway, just be careful, tis da puasa period now… No, dat doesn’t make dem any less greedy… it actually makes dem even more greedy cos dey tend to splurge more wen breaking fast… In fact, tis also common knowledge dat da traffic police usually come out in full force during dis time of da year.

Remember, if you feel generous… there’s always da SPCA :)

“I asked a very simple question in plain English.

    I will get an answer.

What is the cost? That’s irrelevant, the question you should be asking is what is the cost, if I do not continue to ask the question?

It will come, tmr or in 10 years time, but always remember, I had the courtesy to ask and ask again I will and as the mathematics of necessity demands, they would either have to pretend they didn’t hear it or to fashion whatever reasons to persuade the rest of you.

You have to ask yourself - why?

Who will win? The short answer no one. We have already lost can’t you not see it?

That’s why we have to continue asking, we have passed the point of no return.”

Well, I suppose the origin of “minum kopi” relates to giving kopi lui, i.e. money to buy kopi.

I guess, in the past, when police went to do spot checks or carry out raids in places like gambling dens, the offenders give money to the police so that they can go take a coffee break, while allowing time for the offenders to get rid of the evidence or run away.
