Comments, opinions and an occasional ramble
Poor Jack Neo
Sure, Jack Neo did have an affair, and that’s not socially acceptable for a married man. However, is he the perpetrator or is he the victim? My belief is that to a large extent, he’s more of a victim.
That 22-year-old Wendy Chong actually had the gall to turn up at Neo’s home to apparently demand meeting Neo’s wife. And wow, she actually alerted the media to a meeting between Neo, Neo’s wife and herself. I can think of plenty of impolite terms to describe such a woman but let’s just say that I think the actions of Wendy Chong indicates that she’s not completely innocent. I do believe that Neo was psychologically vulnerable at the point in time when he started the affair for whatever reason, and he just fell into a honey trap.
Even if Neo wasn’t psychologically vulnerable at that time, the fact that Neo tried to end the affair showed that he came to his senses, but guess what, the spotlight is on his moment of indiscretion rather than his moment of discretion. Well done, Singapore newspapers!
My personal convictions aside, I just hope that the entire Singapore shut up about this topic, especially the mass media. His dirty linen has been hung out to dry for all and sundry, and what other lurid details do ordinary citizens need to know? If anyone wants lurid stuff for kicks, just go to google.com and do a search. I assure that you’ll find much better stuff out there.
Right now, I’m glad that there’s at least a silver lining: Neo’s wife has been very calm and gracious about the matter, and I really applaud her for that. Seriously, this whole affair is the domain of Neo and his wife, so the rest of Singapore should stop sticking their fingers into the pie of someone else. Do we really need to devote more attention to his affair and put their marriage at further risk? If at all possible, Neo’s wife should issue a statement to the media and tell the kaypoh Singaporeans to shut up.

Both Jack Neo and Wendy Chong are mature enough to know what is right and what is wrong. Why get involved when you know well that you have no result after that as one is Married?
Is there any motives behind? For fun? For $$$$? or what?
The only ones that get hurt is Jack Neo’s family members -wife and kids. I am sure there is so much respect for this person, Jack Neo- on how he climbed up to be what he is now!
Wendy should know that she is getting along with a Married man – will she get results? She should know well how Jack has built up his family from one kid to 4 kids now. Will he leaves his family for her?
Both are responsible for their deeds and should settle it quickly and not to threaten to keep relationship to go on. I hope Wendy understand well before her relationship start that it has no ending! It is just unfortunate that she was tempted to this relationship hope it is not for luxury/material needs (as in papers that she goes shopping when she follows him overseas) which will not last!
Both need to WAKE UP and continue with their lives!

Interesting blog, had fun reading your entries
I agree that he had a hard hit and that the girl was nasty, but what they both did was wrong, and these are the consequences that result from their choices. He has an amazing wife. I’m most worried about his kids though.

Why Wendy Chong needed to expose these shameful affairs to media?
Why She needed to expose so many details about their affair?
This is another great lesson, we just have to be cautious in our life moment by moment. The best is to have moral values and wisdom.

I am a very simple man but one day I did ask that brotherhood fellow Mr Darkness why he preferred his own company to that of a few beautiful girls who seem to be very interested in talking to him. This meeting was somewhere in East Coast park. And he said to me, if you cannot control your d*** you can control nothing. Then he rode away alone while the others stayed on to talk to these other girls. There is no morality here. But it makes sense. Maybe Mr Neo should exercise more self control for the sake of his loved ones. This must be very bad for his wife, children and those who know him.

“My belief is that to a large extent, he’s more of a victim”…..
A man having an extra-marital affair with a 22 year old (and now possibly with another 25 year old) is NEVER the victim. The only victim is the wife (and children). It’s statements like the above that further accelerate the moral decline in the country.
This is another clear case of rich and famous men believing that they are “entitled” to do whatever they want, whenever they want. Guess there is no difference in this whichever country you are in.

I totally agree with ML.
How could a 50-year-old man possibly be a victim in this case? He should be wise enough to know what he is doing. C’mon, this is not a girl he just met in a bar. In all awareness, he laid out his plans and carried out his actions to take advantage of this young girl for two long years! He pre-meditated ways to remove evidence of their affairs. And now that he’s caught, he could think quickly enough to get public sympathy (by saying he still loves his family) and gather people to rally behind him. I feel sad for the wife and children. But for Jack Neo, there are only three words: Shame on him!
Have you read that another girl has stepped forward? This is to remove any doubts once and for all that Jack Neo is indeed a serial cheater. Surpriseeee…, there are a lot of bad, unscrupulous men out there that are rotten to the core, and do not know how to appreciate what they have!
On why Wendy turned up at his house and alert a reporter: It’s the typical, desperate reaction of a young, immature girl that knows that she’s been lied upon and about to be dumped, my friend. It’s “stupid love” – but well, such is the folly of youth. Hardly criminal at all.
The same can hardly be said about Jack Neo, though.
Please don’t pity him.

What Jack Neo did was wrong. His wife knowing about the affair and keeping quiet is wrong. What the girl did was wrong. Your light feathering of this topic was wrong too. Morality is everything! Now what I would like to know is : are there other worms going to crawl out from Mr. Neo’s closet..

There’s a difference between a man having an affair with a womAn and a man abusing his position to receive sexual favours from womEn.
Unfortunately for the naive, Wendy Chong is not the only woman. There were many others. Neo was unlucky to involve himself with a woman who won’t let him off.

On his blog, he wrote he prefer to be humorous as his life philosophy.
So let’s see if he can be humorous at this kinda time.
There is nothing wrong Ms Wendy Chong got the media in.
She needs witness and attention.
Mr Jack Neo is lucky he is Singapore, not Hong Kong.
If he is in Hong Kong, there is no way he can hide.
Our paparazzi here is more forgiving and not pressing.
Let’s face it. All men are like that since time immemorial.

When Jackie Chan extra-marital affair became public, he said at a press conference :he committed a mistake that all men in the world committed (In cantonese) I don’t remember any man in the celebrity world who actually stood up and speak up against his verdict, let alone others.
What POOR Jack Neo? What victim is there to talk about? He should know the consequences of his own doing and should answer for it. Just like the women who was involved in this incident, would have to answer for HER consequences as well.

This is getting really amusing. What does all this witch hunt accomplish? Make things better?
This is a matter for Jack Neo and all affected parties to resolve, so let him settle his problem. All the busybodies should just mind their own husbands and families.
I will resolutely defend Jack Neo against this useless witch hunt. If anyone has a good idea on how to make things better with a witch hunt, I’ll be more than happy join the hunt.

ML,
Yours is the only comment I am going to respond to. I simply meant Jack Neo’s the victim of a woman who claimed to love him but went to town with all the sordid details. That was the context I was talking about, so please DO NOT take my words out of context. Thank you.

In an affair, everyone is a loser/victim. Man’s dirty linen is washed in public, wife’s happy-family facade crumbled, childen faced with family crisis and mistress dumped and discarded after use. How can it be said that JN is ‘more of a victim’ when he caused the affair to happen. JN made movies with moral values, he has now fallen flat on his face. Other celebrities had affairs/divorces but they did not pretend to be goodie2shoes.

If there is no demand for the news, there will not be the supply. Who to blame?

Hi Aaron,
Thanks for repyling to my comments. You sounded pissed off
.
If I had taken your meaning out of context, then I apologise.
But do realise that your article, although acknowledging that JN’s actions are wrong, you are also saying that his mistress has no business going to the press and ratting him out. Why is that? Are only good actions and behaviour supposed to be publicised? So she was angry at him and wanted to shame him. Her choice. Just like it was his choice to start an affair and then wanting to end it. He is a celebrity and a public figure and these sordid details are bound to attract a media frenzy. So he should be well aware of the negative publicity it can generate for himself.
I do agree with you though, that it is a great thing that his wife is forgiving, and I truly hope that they can work things out at the homefront.
Hi ML,
I was more of annoyed than pissed.
As for whether the mistress should have ratted on Neo, my take is that she shouldn’t because there’s no good reason to, assuming that what the mistress wanted was a proper resolution to the matter, which seemed to be the case initially.
This aside, now that the cat’s out of the bag, what else do we really need to know, and what’s so good about knowing the number of women he’s tried to hit on and how he went about doing that? What’s the point of a trial by public opinion? Do we get any positive outcomes? I don’t think so.
I think enough has been said and people should just get off his back and get on with their lives. I just don’t wish to see things get worse for Jack’s family with all these needless fanning of the wildfire.

Hi Claire,
What else do we not know about Jack Neo’s penchant for sweet young things that we need to know? It doesn’t matter anymore how many more actually come forward. Singaporeans already know Jack Neo is a ______ (insert your own noun that connotes “jerk”), so more of the same really is a waste of time. He can probably repent and repair his strained family relationships better without all these additional public glare and the public can do better things with their time.

Dear Aaron,
Some time ago, I left a comment on your blog regarding a linguistic research project but I think I didn’t get an answer. Would you be interested? If you want to take part and/or have more questions, please drop me a note ( hack2301@uni-trier.de RE: Question ) so that I can then send you the ‘official’ project eMail. We’d really appreciate your help. (And really, completing our questionnaire takes less than 5 min.)
Thanks very much in advance!
Best regards,
- Fran

The media in singapore is particular hot on gossips. It is very interesting that when other parts of the world focus their attention on politics, people in singpore still follow tightly on people’s personal life. I seriously wonder whether they indeed only care about afairs, personal marriage plans …

Aaron said: “However, is he the perpetrator or is he the victim? My belief is that to a large extent, he’s more of a victim.”
The thread title is already a giveaway – sympathetic to Jack. Common, who are you trying to kid that the fault lies not with Jack? Who is in the upper missionary position? A nobody newbie movie wannable at most can throw herself as rug for Jack. But it is up to Jack to step on and ride the carpet!
Surely, we are not seeing just one willing Wendy who got hit. Several women got hit and one 16-year old lickily wasn’t stupid to fall for Jack’s dinner invitation.
You are suggesting that Jack was a serial victim!
How stupid can you get by claiming I No Stupid?

Hi, my thinking is the same as the blogger, I do think that Mr Jack Neo is more of a victim here in this situation. What I hope is that everybody cool down and give Mr Jack Neo and his family some breathing space, instead of adding more oil to the fuel. Why has not anybody question the background of the mistress, the model?
Yes, correct Mr Jack Neo is at fault, but does that need such much cristism from the rest of the people. Please be remindful that we are outsiders, not his wife. His wife has more reasons to disliked him, not us, the outsiders. Come on, we are not all really angels, right? What gives us the power to critise Mr Jack Neo when we are not that pure?
I hope the rest of the people please do your other important jobs properly instead of gossipping. What good are your comments that will bring the downfall of Mr Jack Neo’s career? So is it when Mr Jack Neo’s career do really ended, are all of you happy and satisfied that your gossipping has so much authority and power? When you speak you represent your parents, so when you speak, you follow the examples of your parents. If your parents are not knowlegable, you will follow the same as your own parents.

I really do hope people cool down and think carefully before shooting their poison mouths off. I think people died not because of diseases, but of these poison gossipping news which hurt people feelings. Do you know how to spell the word feelings a not?
Do you know what is having to seduce the man first then demanded money from Mr Jack Neo. This is how the mistress, the model is trying to aim to do on her list. Have you all read the newspapers these days. There are a lot of money scams, cheated money cases about the elderly people, fathers raped own daugthers, husbands beat up wives, staring incidents outside the pubs ending in fights and in the worse cases, deaths. So judging by the daily newspapers entries, you should roughly know that people nowadays have no hearts, in fact, these peoples’ hearts are black.
I think the mistress, the model is trying to blackmail Mr Jack Neo after having an affair with him for two years. You shoul know how people can behave in this society right now.
Come on, give Mr Jack Neo a break. We have no right to interfere in his own family affairs. Try to understand his situations right now. Do you all wanted his wife to die from the gossipping news? If she really dies, then it will be partly the gossipping news which caused her death in addition to the upset she suffered after learning that her husband had an affair, which she knew of, a year ago.

Hi Aaron,
While i do understand your point that the witch-hunt does not serve any useful purpose other than getting more juicy details, i kind of disagree with your point that “Neo was psychologically vulnerable at the point in time when he started the affair for whatever reason, and he just fell into a honey trap.”
I don’t see him as a victim. Obviously, he made use of his position to extract sexual favors. He is making use of the ladies’ vulnerability. While the ladies can choose not to bite the bait, it doesn’t change the fact that he has exploited his position.
And why drag the poor wife out into the limelight? Is Neo trying to tell us that he can’t face the music alone? He already said his wife is not used to media exposure, then why did he contradict himself by dragging that poor lady out?
I agree that the media witch-hunt is just a vultures’ feast. But Neo a mere victim? I beg to differ.

Looks like there’s quite a support for JN and claiming to be his private life and affair.
Well not really private when he is now a celebrated and decorated film director/actor. If he indeed used his position to abuse his power over his preys, then he will face public condemnation while empathizing with his family. Just like when he deserved admiration and support for his films from the public. Good or bad, the general public does have a say.
Ministers and MPs should just refrain from commenting even though he’s a friend of some.
This is what happen when one became successful and have too much money to spend. Maybe the next box-office movie will be something like “When Money Is More Than Enough”
Life goes on…. my heartiest empathy to JN’s wife and children.

Its not private when its exposed.
Logic tells you that.
Is the MP actually insinuating that it is fine to sexually harass if you are successful?

Everything u say is based on ur conjecture. It could very well be that the poor girl suffer so much that she has the courage to go public on sleeping with a married man who is older than her father and risk being called a slut. What has Jack done to make her turn so extreme. Ya, everything is just our conjecture, so be fair and look at both side of the coin.

It should be poor wendy chong.. poor foyce.. First the car deliberately gotton for a reason. While true, women will fall but Jack Neo made them stumple further & more & took advantages on them.
Poor Aaron, you are a no brainer.
I have no sympathy for Jackass. He deserves what he gets.
PAP under elder statesman will not tolerate & will eventually hang him. PAP never like scandals in their ranks… it brings ill-will to the party. Party image comes first before such characters.
Just imagine – PAP, no corruption party.. but ..PAPA allow cadre members to engage in sexual exploitation & using of young girls for sexual expliotation. What does it say of PAP reputation which such jackass in its rank?
You are a no brainer. You from Hwa Chong – what a disgrace.
