No, I am not doing a survey but rather, someone contacted me and requested help in getting survey participants. If you are kind enough to assist, please help her out. The details of the survey are as follows:
A NTU Masters student is conducting an Internet survey on “Internet Users’ Perceptions of Socio-Political Blog Credibility in Singapore”. The survey comprises of 19 questions and will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. This survey will run throughout May 2008 and respondents stand a chance of winning $200 cash.

Hi Linda
I hate to be the bearer of bad news. Would really like to partake in your survey. However, we have all been told to stay well clear from it. There is nothing in writing of course.They will never admit it, but I understand most of the BP regular and new readers have been told to give this a miss.

Why, am I doing this? To show you that I have every right to say I do not see you, in very much the same way as, you all insist to the same to me.
What we have here is the clearest the vindication of the term karma – bad begets bad.
I would have to insist under the strongest possible terms Linda that you include this as an annexure in your survey.
After all we do not want you to misrepresent the truth do we? It would be fair to those who would subsequently use your work as a basis of premising anything.

You are to blame for this Darkness! Yes, you are right, there is no law that compels you to participate, if you choose to do so, but the default position is what you are doing is tantamount to sabotaging Linda’s work!
If you have a personal grudge against nlb, bl or Dr cherian george take it out on them, no one will say a thing. infact the whole blogosphere will not even bother to take sides as most can understand why you are embittered and angry, but why get an innocent person involved?

Dear Passerby. Understand this! None of you have bothered to use your brains! Ask yourself one simple question: why doesn’t the ST ventilated this matter? Why do they keep pushing for this whole idea by lauding the efforts of these 15 bloggers? Why have they not even bothered to flesh out the counter argument? If you really want to know then find out who heads AIMS. Go on! It will blow your socks off. You could even say this is the “give away.” The so called “tell,” that professional poker players often refer too when they can see what cards you or I hold. Now it’s conceivable this man has reached a point in life when he probably feels he has more or less fulfilled all his biological duties and all there is left to do is to find a quiet place to die, but even then, he’s not stupid, he doesn’t want to go down in Singapore history as the man who fucked up the machine that could have changed the world – the internet. Neither does anyone in either MDA or mica want to cut the Star of Africa either – so what we have here is an unwanted child; and this is why some of them have conceived this delusional plan to convince all of us in blogosphere; this is an idea that originated from the blogging community; they are trying to pass the buck; to even outsource the problem to all of us; that way, if it fucks up we are to blame; you see the best plan in the world is one where you can convince those which it should apply too that they themselves conceptualized, conceived it; you can even say that’s part and parcel of what makes it all so believable. So expect concessions to be given; this much I am 100% sure, as I said, it’s a bit like religion, it must be seen to be important, otherwise how can ppl be expected to believe it? You know what? I just call this the con job of the century.
FACT: No one in blogosphere came up with this idea of a community moderator except maybe a couple of people. They do not represent blogosphere any more than a cave full of chimpanzees in Africa represent the homo sapien species. FACT: A significant segment of netizens don’t have any problems with dismantling the laws (neither do I), but they do NOT want such a thing as a community moderator; go put it to a vote in the internet, if you don’t believe me; if they can get 5% of votes in the majority; I will gladly pack up my bags and move out. FACT: No one in the net wants to fuck around with it; most of us just want the status quo ante to remain i.e to even leave it alone.
So what you need to understand here is simply this; who will use the results of the survey? What will they be trying to push through?
I mean if someone is pouring petrol into your house, why should you help them light a match? You must be kidding me right? Understand?

Remember what I have said, one day when you are old and when a kid ask you why our blogosphere is closer to Pyongyang than Paris? You will be able to tell him why. Remember always it’s like religion; it has to be seen to work in the lives of people for it to remain important. This initiative by the G-15 will be well received; trust me; laws which are a defunct will even give way to make up these concessions. Don’t believe me watch and see. It will come to pass. The people who are in power already know the only way to establish long term command and control over the net is not through law but through the formation of this new community moderator; here, they will have everything in the way of ; legitimacy; the justification along with the all the means to realize their long term designs. What better way to control blogosphere than to pit blogger against blogger? You could even say, it’s a way of unionizing the net that gives the government everything without even having to stick their necks out. The Online Citizen cannot be trusted, it is a known fact, some of their writers take money from the establishment. What else goes on, we have absolutely no idea, but my feel is there should always be a counter force or opposition to such oligarchies. Neither can BL or Cherian be completely trusted, their careers are languishing (please sue me, it will be an opportunity to wear my tightest trousers out in the open and to publicize this matter to your greater occupational detrimental! Please I beg you, sue me! If you have the balls!). All they want is to secure their future in this new architecture. They do not give two shits about the net. My men and me have spent nearly 100 hours war gaming out the outcome, pouring through every single permutation. We even know what their plan B,C and possibly D is. Nothing they do is not transparent to us. We know what their plan inside out. It is not that they do not hear me but the truth remains, they cannot even answer one single question which I have posed to them directly concerning this whole idea of a community moderator. You see my friends, it’s really very simple. They cannot allow themselves the risk of being scrutinized, so evasion remains their only strategy.
If you don’t believe watch and see – concessions will be given, but one thing will remain very certain – even the government will support this whole idea of a community moderator. You have to ask yourself why?

What fools you all are. You have allowed the great Devil to use his fork tongue and now he has won. Do you all not see what, he is doing? He is speaking to his followers.
I know the Devil. I know what haunts him and even keeps him awake. There was one incident some 500 years ago in their history. A painful chapter, just after at the beginning of the age of the rocket in their game.
The Shadal aka Darkness was ambushed by a group of gamers who called themselves the Aryan Scrouge. They came by the thousands and soon they were overwhelmed.
In this one deciding battle. The brotherhood had to leave many behind as they lacked space ships which could tranverse the infinity of space. The devil said, he would return but something happened. And so those who waited for him perished. Many were left behind. Many died. Many perished.
The Great Devil never forgave himself. For the next 100 years everyone of the Aryan Scrouge was mercilessly hunted down, their seed brought to and end. Whole cities and villages disappear such was the depth of his sorrow.
The man who all called “Shadal,” who was also known as the father of the game felt aggrieved. He believed, he had failed his tribe. So following that incident the brotherhood recruited the best engineers and mastered the art of space travel. Great industry and skill was poured into this one goal. Eventually they became so good at it, they even went into the business of selling space ships and space stations.
But the memory of having to leave so many people behind haunted the Great Devil. For the last 6 years. A secret project known as “Saral” has been in the forging. Here the Great Devil has embarked on a plan to construct a city in a space ship. He means to take all his people with him this time. Not a single one will be left behind. No one.
Even as we speak the devil has been in communication with other tribes, they are slowly preparing to go, very slowly, they are pulling one cable out at a time. You see my friends, this has nothing to do with the efforts of the 15 bloggers. This is the madness of one man who has managed to seduce many with his glib tongue.
This is the work of The Great Devil Darkness. We would like to fool ourselves this is not reaching out to many, but how wrong you all are. If only all of you know. If only you do not underestimate him. If only you see him for the danger he really presents.

Its just silly not to talk with the brotherhood. They produce like a factory. Anyone with that sort of out gets my utmost respect.Most surfers click on sites not to read, but to check out whether the site owners have written anything new, but I have noticed in BP sites. If you click on them, day or night, there is always something to read every single everyday. So it is very easy to integrate the BP into ones lifestyle, its like an Ipod or even drinking kopi O. Grows on you.Even if you look at sites which are supposed to be long dead like the Intelligent Singaporean, who was probably operated by one of their own ppl, I suspect, you notice those articles still get quite alot of hits despite having hardly any referrals or links. So in cummulative terms BP probably has as much clout as 20 to 30 blogs combined into one! With that sort of sizeable segmentation, you would have thought someone who wanted to change the furniture around the internet would have first consulted them!
Now if they go, who ever takes over might as well switch off the lights!

This guy has to be either a very adept Gorilla or Guerilla fighter. Whatever he is. One thing is very clear, he has a panel of savy lawyers giving him advise. Notice very carefully, he is using proven standard sling shot legal tactics which is designed to spider the evidential burden of proof, especially even establishing the prima facie locus standi case for defamation suits. For example, notice, he uses the term of address Cherian (non specific) which can mean John ? John Smith, John Tan Ah Kow. BL can mean Bollocks ? to Baloney Louhaha. Yes, they should go after him. After all it will just confirm no end what we have all always suspected all along abt those screws. They have been reading on the side all along and openly ignoring him and many of the thorny issues he has raised. Otherwise what do you expect us all to surmise? They read this and conveniently suffered amnesia for the others? I wonder. Nope you are wrong messenger. The SA never censored his writings. You will find Darkness is not only a regular poster, but he has even engaged all of us in robust debate on several occasions. Pls verify this with reference to our archives. I know. I happen to be one of regular SA writers incognito.

Dear all,
Allow me to clarify our position so there is no confusion. There are only two sites in blogosphere who regularly delete our comments without any apparent cause or reason.
The first is SIMPLE IS THE REASON OF MY HEART run by Bernard Leong. You can confirm this with any of the Singapore Angle writers. We can only speculate why he does the things he does – we have no idea.
TQ Anon Lawyer for stepping in to clarify on our behalf.
The second is the The Online Citizen. The site where one of the writers was regularly receiving money from unspecified sources for whatever reason known only to their editorial team?
You can go and speculate why they regularly do this.
What I have stated is actionable in law. They have a right to sue, but knowing them, they will only bully minions like Jasper. When it comes to real heavy weights like us, their preferred strategy is, I do not see. I do not hear and I do not think.
You ask yourself why lah?
BTW, we (writers and readers) are boycotting this survey en mass. If it comes out and this is not specifically mentioned as an annex. We will challenge it as a matter of law. I believe this will not in any way prejudice our statutory rights.

Ok, I think I’ve had quite enough of the entries about Bernard Leong and The Online Citizen from the Brotherhood. This is a survey by someone who is doing her Masters thesis. Stop bringing in other issues. It is fine to discuss issues of censorship but don’t do it at the expense of someone else. The person who requested for assistance from me is a complete stranger to me and a completely innocent party. I trust that the Brotherhood folks are not juveniles and know basic respect. I welcome the Brotherhood folks to discuss anything on my blog but please respect rules of engagement and don’t involve innocent people.

I believe we have a right to highlight this. Besides we know for a fact they have less than 50 respondents and we all know for a Likert analysis to be credible, it must have a minimum of at least 1,000 bfr it can even be seriously considered. Got 500 or not?
I really dun think so! Why lah? Go and figure it out lah!
Just make sure when some urination expert decides to use it they specify very clearly what is the precise spread. That is my main point.

Anyway, from the standpoint of academic research, based on her sampling method, it is irrelevant as to whether the brotherhood people boycott the survey or not. It doesn’t affect the end result since it’s not random sampling anyway. And do you even know what you are talking about when you say for a Likert analysis u need X number before it can be seriously considered? From that statement alone I can tell you know nuts about sampling and generalisability of results so quit babbling. The more you babble, the more you look like a noob, even though you have a valid case. The wise man knows when to speak and when not to. If you have a problem with The Online Citizen or Bernard Leong, go find them and deal with them. Stop harassing other innocent people.

Perhaps its best, if you take a break. I understand. Many of us are down hearted. Both writers and readers, but we must be mindful who we direct our anger towards. As despite our very best attempts to connect, it seems the G-15 are only content not to read, not to hear and even not to acknowledge our concerns. They believe it is their right to do so. I have no comment. My feel Chronicler is this; Darkness has invested a lot of time, energy and thoughtware to connect with the intellectuals in blogoland; he has reached out and posed many questions which will not simply go away; neither can they be just pushed to one side. The matters he has raised in the Phi Beta Kapa interview are jugular to the whole proposition of mooting the idea of the community moderator.
However, when you write the things you do here and elsewhere Chronicler – what are you trying to accomplish? I have even heard, you have threatened the Malaysians!!!!!!!! Now you are picking fights with Aaron!!!!!!! Have you ever asked yourself; what will the thinking people make from all this rubbish you are spouting? Have you lost your brain? What are you trying to do, to all the hard work Darkness has invested in this whole matter? Are you adding or taking away value?
You must think! Perhaps, you would do well to take Darkness cue and to simply walk away and never ever look back. Most of us have already left. He knew. He realized. He has true. The questions that have been raised are serious. They will not simply go away. Neither will it cut any ice even if someone who claims to be an asst prof in some tin pot university chooses NOT to acknowledge it. Life is not so simple. These questions and their rammifications are much bigger that even him and all of us put together multiplied by a couple of thousand times.
Darkness did what was required of a honest man who believes in something with all his heart, no more or less.

The boycott recommended by the chronicler will have to stand on both counts. Let me explain to all of you why? Even activist such as Yawning Bread cannot deny, this whole idea of advocating a community moderator must at least be seen to be consistent. If you note very carefully, he delights in taking issue with what our govt does and doesn’t do. However, when it comes to issues directly on his door step i.e the issues which we have raised, he is adamant and even refuses to acknowledge them. We can only draw a few conclusions from this. He is either not interested. Or he doesn’t have the inclination to indulge in these matters. In both cases, this makes a very poor case for someone who proposes to occupy the high ground as a moral advocate. One cannot be in a pick and choose what is morally consistent, yet aspire to occupy a moral high ground. I just call this hippocrisy. He is a hopeless case for even the gay movement or for that matter any movement!
The boycott recommended by the chronicler will have to stand under my authority. I will support it full heartedly. However, I expect the chronicler to issue an official apology to Darkness ( I cannot understand why he was purposely single out by the guild, in their vile reference: on 30 May 2008 at 6:16 pm – There is no excuse for this! Do you hear me!). I also want the guild federation to issue out an official apology to our Malaysian friends!

Thanks for weighing in. The grievances voiced by Chronicler are valid and I will take up the topic in a later entry for discussion. It seems to me that the brotherhood is not a monolithic group and it probably complicates matters that there are self-proclaimed brotherhood members but I do hope the actions of Chronicler is a mere aberration. I have great respect for both you and Darkness for the both of you are very reasonable and I hope I can say the same for the rest of the brotherhood members.

Let me explain in plain language why I say you know nuts about about what you are talking about. Firstly, Likert is a scale, not a method or analysis. The method is a survey. Likert is merely one of the ways to measure an ordinal variable. As for analysis, you take the data and run it through correlation analysis, regression analysis or whatever other analysis suitable for answering your research questions.
Secondly, even if you have 1000 responses, the results are meaningless if the sampling is not properly done. It’s not about mathematics. Statistically, 1000 responses is an excellent number of responses but if all 1,000 responses come from members of the brotherhood, the results are not generalisable to the population. It is only generalisable to members of the brotherhood. The results of statistical analysis are meaningless if the sampling is flawed.
In anycase, based on the intent of the study, it appears that the research design isn’t meant to be generalisable so it really doesn’t matter if the brotherhood boycotts the survey or not. That being the case, it doesn’t matter if it is 50, 500 or 5,000 responses. I suggest that you read up on statistics for social science before you challenge me next time. Statistics for mathematics and statistics for social sciences are not quite the same.

One thing is clear to me. A leopard does not change its spots. Darkness lives a double life ? surprise, surprise. He is good with women, very, very good. He’s attentive. We all adore him. Besides he’s a looker and you can hardly go wrong there especially when he’s carrying your shopping. Why? The boy knows how to chasmere and champagne a lady. He also knows how to thunderbolt us. That’s very important. He has a fleet of fast cars, he has a way abt it and he knows how to titillate and flaunt it all. If you study him, one thing surfaces, he is a sulker, that’s all he really is as Everest is a great mountain or the Aswan dam is a great body of water. I don’t believe ordinary people understand how persuasive he can be. If one is with him, he will sms you day and night, he is just an incredibly good jaga, cocooning one in a velvety balm. Never ever leaving one a drift for even one moment. You see at the end of the day that is all there is to it. People will always vote for those who they really believe in. If you don’t believe me, just go and ask how he managed to win his fight with his own church. Did Bambi Darkness Baby Boy really win on merit? Pray tell! What has Bambi Darkness Boy mentioned so far abt this whole business of the “community moderator” and the setting up of a non elected committee? Do try to get the right end of the stick here LOTL. I think, when one looks at all his comments, writings and quips. The force of all these comments are directed to only a few broken record points and targetted to only a few people, I think, at people who think critically and at critics whole work aims at a close appreciation of the social political process. If I may summarize, his main idea is divided into 3 main segments. Go and examine them carefully. You can almost say it is a tri-ology. For one he has liken this whole idea of a non democratically elected committee to something closer to religion. If you notice, he keeps saying for it to be relevant. Then it must be seen to be important. There has to be miracles. Even the turning of water into wine, raising the dead and bountiful catches. So that is a big clue, we should be mindful of how the MSM plays up this whole idea of the community moderator. Once their spin machine starts it will not be too hard to spot. I spent many weeks just deliberating over this statement. I wondered to myself, why does he keep repeating it? I believe the main idea of what he is trying to convey is that even as we must fully comprehend the pastness of the past, there is no just way in which the past can be quarantined from the present. Past and present inform each other, each implies the other and, in the toally ideal sense intended by those who choose to manipulate it to serve their own ends. In short he knows, they dont have the legitimacy, so they need to set about the task of setting up the justification and myth making machinery. Hence the similarity with religion.
