But the press is only meek cos there are spies within the organization.
I think the people at the Singapore Intelligence Directorate would know who they are.

Who wants to get eaten up by the ISA?

The press is part of a machinery. It take orders, it does not speak for the people. You press buttons on the machinery and you get black and white paper. What a way to waste paper. At least, toilet paper can clean your a**.

Yee Hung,

My response is to your American government example during WWII is quite simply this: it was a state of emergency. That the press gets muzzled during a state of emergency is understandable (although I don't think it's desirable). Unless you are trying to tell me that Singapore is constantly in a state of emergency, I don't think the press should always be bowing to the government.

han,

By that statement, I do not mean to say that all things online are extremist. What I'm alluding to is the fact that it's much easier to selective expose oneself to extremist views (which may or may not be espousing desirable views) online given that the nature of the medium is so narrow. A critical press, while being critical, is unlikely to spread falsehood relative to rouge websites whose origins are unknown because the profession adheres to a code of ethics (at least most of them).

There is no free market, free press, free medias(and hence free expressions) and freedom, be prepared to be shackled unless there is collective efforts to work towards emancipation !

"Between having a free, critical mass media that the population views as credible and people getting online to read extremist anti-government propaganda, I think it’s the lesser of two evils to have a free and critical mass media."

Wait a second there. The only free and critical mass media belongs online. So stop trying to discredit online as extremist and anti-govt propaganda.
