Update to self-regulation of SG bloggers
In response to my earlier post on the topic of blogger self-regulation, I’ve set up a small forum on this blog for everyone to discuss on what should be included in a good blogger code of conduct, as well as how to word the code.
I’m no expert on drafting a code of conduct, so I hope that the blogging community will be willing to chip in to offer ideas. After all, since this is an issue that affects all of us, it would be best if everyone participates in the drafting of this code.
The forum may be accessed by clicking on the XDFORUM link on the top menu bar.
** I know the navigation button looks very ugly but I’ve not figured out how to change it proper. Please bear with it for the time being.

what it means is that they want to create a governing and controlling power within the dominant legislative power. a subset of a greater driving force. or to put it bluntly, lifting the whip only to reposition the whip to the same effect.
you know, there are generally two kinds of crap. credible crap and incredible crap. which ever way you look at it, it can still be crap. the best form of regulation is developing the individual compass and thereafter, trusting the sensibility of the majority to lead. but unless of course, mind control or regulation will be best suited to serve certain agendas.

Your forum ate my comment so I am reposting it here. IANAL, but as far as understand it, it is not possible to defame an entire class of people. To cite hypothetical examples, saying that Tan Ah Kow and Yang Meh Meh are cowards could be defamatory, but saying that all economists are stupid isn’t. OTOH it is possible to defame an entity: “all lawyers are corrupt” is not defamatory (althought clearly logically suspect) but saying “all lawyers in the Society of Singapore Lawyers are corrupt” could very well be.

Also, you can’t weasel out of defamation by prefacing a potentially defamatory statement by “It is my opinion that X”. If the someone you reference in statement X does take offense, he can successfully sue you because the intent is clearly present.

No wonder they framed the Eternal One on the bloody cross for mentioning swines and snakes.

next time, when a rebellious teenager call his/her mother names in public, advice the mother to sue her son/daugter in court instead of settling differences civilly or if that fails, find a nice little old religious leader to threaten damnation in hell.lol.

Hi Elia,
I’m admit my deficiencies in knowledge of defamation laws, but I understand that it is very possible to defame an entire group, depending on the exact wording of the phrase. This is a lawyer’s speciality, which perhaps explains why we have to pay them so much.
