DIY Preparations…
June 10th 2007 by Wife in PreparationsI’ve been feeling really excited for the past month or so, as I plan what needs to be done and what I hope to achieve in order to be unique. Tiring it may be, but I must say that I am happy!
So, it’s DIY for various stuff for a few reasons. For one thing, it definitely cut costs, and for another, more importantly, it’d definitely be one of a kind, ‘cos nobody will find it anywhere else! It’s been ultra-great thinking up of ideas and searching for the materials I must say, perhaps because it’s something I really enjoy doing (what am I doing cooped up in the lab all day you ask? I wonder too sometimes…
)
Just to give a brief idea of what I’ve been busy with (hopefully without giving too much away), here are the materials for the invites cum guest book (ops, think these pics don’t include the paper we bought for the guest book):
We worked on the layout and design of the invitation for almost a day, and I guess all we can say is, we are satisfied. Hee.. Time to get cracking on getting the ideas from the drawing table to actual reality! Haha… Man this is tiring…

Hey…do you know where did u buy the envelopes from?? They certainly look one-of-a-kind!!

If you mean the paper with 2 hearts, it’s actually the wedding invite. You are suppose to print on the space below the 2 hearts. It was supplied by Mandai Orchid Gardens for our solemnisation. I’m not sure who they got their paper from though. You might want to ring them to find out.
Anyway, there are many ways of customizing your own envelopes. We went down to Brash Basah and found lots of things there. Check out either the Popular there or Art Friend. They have lots of gold/silver stickers that you can buy and paste on envelopes to make them look really nice. And if you want an embossing effect, there are stuff there that can do that too!

Aw man!
If I were there in Singapore, Peiying, I would really, really love helping you do all your decors, invitations, everything! (Okay. Maybe not your gown and the groom’s suit)
Back here in my local church, there are around 300 + members and around 500 + Sunday attendees. Around 75% of the members would be invited so that we would be the wedding committee! All of us pitch in to do the invitations that we ourselves would receive, do the video, prepare a surprise video presentation, do the planning, etc. A newly-married couple in our church even made it a ministry for them to help out engaged couples to plan a wedding so that the bride (okay, and sometimes the groom) would not be too stressed out during the wedding preparations!!!
I feel so excited for you!
I’m so sorry for the ignorance though. If you have time, could you explain to me what is the difference of the wedding ceremony that I would know (i.e. those you see in American movies) and a solemnization like yours?
Happy. Happy. Happy for you both… So how many of Peiying’s lab rats are invited?

Hi Rae,
I’ve explained the Singaporean styled wedding procedure in a brand new entry! Check it out. I’ll probably explain later on what are some of the more common things that occur in the customary for chinese weddings. Check back from time to time!

Haha, Rae!
Thanks for the best wishes and the offer to help me out with my wedding! *touched*
Wow, it’s indeed a huge wedding committee that’s involved in a couple’s wedding over there! The couple should have a breeze through all the planning then! Haha.. It has been pretty tiring doing it on our own, with just 2 pairs of hands and 2 brains.. Hee..
Nonetheless, it has been a great experience and I must say I am, so far, happy with what we have produced! And yes, the question regarding the difference between a solemnization and a wedding has popped up quite a couple of times among friends, so hopefully, what Aaron has posted sheds some light on the confusion.
And my lab mice (no more rats!) are all busy resting in their air-conditioned home..

Boy, that sure is great how the bride and groom in China get so much help from their congregation in the wedding preparation. With that many attendees, I’m sure the help is very much appreciated. In the US, a couple would never get that kind of assistance with their wedding invitations, or any of the planning for that matter. Americans are very good at throwing out ideas for the bride but not very good at offering to help that much unless it’s from maybe a few close friends.

Hi Debby, first of all, we’re not from China, we’re from Singapore. And this post was written by me (the bride) and therefore there was no congregation to speak of. I did it by myself. Haha.. I love doing things DIY, and must say I very much enjoyed it - the whole planning and preparation process, despite the hard work

Hi paper,
I suggest that you check out Bras Basah Complex. It is right next to the current National Library at Bugis. We got alot of our DIY materials from there. Check out either Art Friend or the Popular (top level I think) over there.

I tried making my own invitations and they ended up turning out awful so I ended up going through http://www.weddinginvitation4u.com to do custom invitations. I ended up getting really cute brown invitations - http://weddinginvitation4u.cceasy.com/WE_ViewEns.cfm?prev=1&TempPrev=0&blnPreviewRequestSubmitted=0&recordsperpage=8&CompletedOrder=0&sBasketID=0&sItemCode=WedEns7490&FromHome=1&Search_intTotalSearchLevel=1&Search_strInputString=1wrapped%20in%20mocha&Search_strInputKeywords=1wrapped%C3%BE1in%C3%BE1mocha&Search_strItemGroup=&Search_blnAccessoryCategoryPage=0&Search_blnSingle=0&alogo=1&menu=none&morethanonepage=YES&HostDomain=0&FirstTimeThrough=1&option=WE_ViewEns.cfm&format=WedEnsCCa&CFID=58465873&CFTOKEN=51604449 - and it saved the day after my DIY disaster.
